The Power of a Name

The power of a name and its value has long been immortalized in prose, poetry, and religious ceremony. Everyone recognizes himself or herself by name.

The question is: how does a name influence a person's character?

Let us consider what a name is. It is the grouping of several letters of an alphabet, or other symbols, which represent the identification of a person or an object.

The one thing which separates human beings from the animal kingdom is human mind, which has the ability to reason on a conscious level. To think consciously, one must use language. This point is not generally appreciated but it is vitally important. It is impossible to think without language. What allows language to serve in this manner? In the case of languages which have alphabets, letters are placed in a definite sequence in the alphabet, i.e., in the English alphabet, "A" is always in the first position, "B" in the second position, and so on. Any alphabet is an alphabet because symbols are recognized by their form or sound in a definite order--change the order and confusion results.

There is more than just sound and alphabetical symbols to language. What is it that language expresses? Is it not intelligence? Is not intelligence a mental power? Do we not learn through education--using language--to develop intelligence, which is recognized as mental growth and the individuality of the personal mind?

The link between human intelligence, mind, language, and the order of the letters in the alphabet is the key to measuring human mind and solving the major problem of mental discord and imbalance.

A simple analogy is the piano. When a note is played, pressing the key activates a string to cause sound vibrations. Each string is tuned to correspond to a note in the musical scale. Each note is a step in the scale, and using these notes a musician can blend the sounds to create harmony or discord. Similarly, names blend conscious forces to create mental harmony or mental discord. The individual keys, although important, are not the music. Music is expressed when the keys activate the strings. If the keys are not used, there is no music. A melody can be played on numerous instruments which express the same musical composition by different means. In the same way, intelligence is universal and can be expressed by many different languages. The thought that the sky is blue can be conveyed in as many languages as exist. Yet the thought remains abstract until expressed through language.

Therefore, intelligence is a universal power which is limited according to the medium of expression or alphabet. More extensive alphabets allow a greater variety in the shades of meaning to be conveyed. Alphabets with only a few symbols lack the capacity to express intelligence as freely and easily as alphabets with many more symbols. Compare this with one piano with three octaves of notes expressing a range of music, to another piano of ten or more octaves of notes. What a difference!

In considering the influence of a name, what is important is the power of intelligence which expresses through the alphabetical symbols comprising the name. Similar to the gradations in sound energies in the scale of music, there is a scale of conscious energy known as qualities of intelligence, which express as invisible energies known as mental power.

There are nine gradations in the scale of conscious expression. Concisely, they are: individuality, diplomacy, artistic expression, technical detail, analytical research, responsibility, philosophical depth of thought, organization, and universal love and understanding.

The Mathematical Principle of nine is a spiritual law which can be found, although hidden in symbology, in all ancient spiritual writings and concepts. When the Principle is understood, a name can be changed to alter the qualities of intelligence expressing through the individual to change one's nature to a state of greater balance and happiness.

A child at birth has no mind; the mind is created when the child is named and when specific conscious energies, coordinated and given expression by the symbols in the name, stimulate the brain cells to respond accordingly--and thus a mental pattern develops. This pattern is recognized as the personality and reflects the qualities of intelligence expressed by the name.

A child learns to associate their names with themselves and identify themselves by name. Thus we are our names. One cannot brush the point aside with, "A name is not important." Answer this: Who are you? How can you identify yourself as a mental power without using your name? If you had no name who would you be? Is your name not important to you? Intelligence, as a universal power, is expressed consciously only through language, and your name gives you your individual intelligent expression.

The body is controlled by the mind and, when the mind expresses discordant characteristics, the body reflects them as illness. Medical science admits mental attitude strongly affects the health of the body; for instance, hypertension can cause ulcers, headaches, etc. The questions are: What causes the hypertension in the first place? Why does it affect different people in different ways? A study of the Kabalarian Philosophy will reveal the answers to these questions.

To understand the spiritual law governing conscious expression is to appreciate the power of intelligence expressing through a name. For those who seek mental clarity, peace of mind, and a balanced, happy life, which is a reflection of a balanced mind, the answer is to look further into the Kabalarian Principle. Thus, the answer to the question, "What's in a name?" is, "Everything". The answer to the question, "What's in your name?" is, "You".

The Mathematical Principle of nine is a spiritual law which can be found, although hidden in symbology, in all ancient spiritual writings and concepts.

When the Principle is understood, a name can be changed to alter it to a what we term a balanced name which when used will allow the inner potential to fully develop and express.
